arts district

what is the arts district?
The Covington Arts District "has recently been established as part of the Economic Development Department in the city of Covington." This has been done in an effort to diversify the City's economic development and strengthen Covington as a cultural center under a belief that "the arts contribute to the creation of more livable cities". The Arts District hopes to "grow Covington as an arts destination widely recognized for its thriving arts community", a goal which the Center is capable of helping to make a reality.

why focus on the arts district?
The Covington arts district was chosen to be a focus area for housing development because of opportunities available for providing housing that will support community members who can directly contribute to the district, like artists. The housing that the Center provides helps the neighborhoods of Westside and Mainstrasse, which are both a part of the district, to strengthen their communities and provide a stable environment which helps to fulfill the goal of a "thriving arts community".

what are the opportunities in the arts district?
The Covington Arts District has recently been established in the Westside and Mainstrasse neighborhoods. Both of these neighborhoods have unique, historic housing stock available for rehabilitation. The Artisan Enterprise Center also provides many supportive services that can help draw local artists to live and work within the neighborhoods. The Covington Artist Residence District (CARD), provides finanical incentives for the purchase and rehabilitation of homes within the Arts District.
